When you hear the word “Alps, somewhere down deep we almost HAVE to picture snowcapped peaks with lower alpine meadows and sheep with their bells sounding as they move across the meadows grazing. Or perhaps the opening scenes of “The Sound of Music”. Both are accurate in portraying the views you'll witness on our 5 and 9 day Austrian hut to hut hiking adventures.

Our trip begins by meeting you at either the Airport or Train Station in Innsbruck, Austria depending on your mode of travel. We then head to an old and famous hotel in town for the evening. The following morning we head out on a beautiful new air conditioned charter type bus for a one hour ride to the Stubai region of Austria. The scenery along the way is nothing short of spectacular. The road winds through the mountains, waterfalls and great views appear constantly.

We head up to the far point of the road to be dropped off at the trailhead leading to the first hut. This is the Sulzenau Hut, which we reach in a couple hours to spend our first evening on the trail.

The hut to hut system in Austria is a real treat. The huts are actually little lodges kept immaculately clean, with dormitory style bunk beds with clean linen and warm blankets, some with hot showers, and even private rooms available at an extra fee. Each hut has a restaurant and dining area featuring great food which is included in the price of the trip. People congregate in the evening and socialize, often forming sing-alongs, chatting about their respective homelands, or starting friendly card games.

In the morning we have a hearty breakfast and with freshly packed lunches, head out to hike to the next hut along the way. We will have freshly packed lunches prepared by the kitchens each morning.

For each day's journey, we'll only need to wear light day packs. Large enough to carry our lunch, water, raingear, a few layers of extra clothing, toilet paper and light gloves. The hike to each hut is only a few hours, so we will hike at a very leisurely pace to absorb the entire experience. The sights and sounds are very specific to this area of the world and will linger with you for a lifetime.

Since we only hike a few hours each day (2 ½ -4 hours between most huts) We have plenty of time in the afternoon to do other activities, such as go hiking up a nearby peak, photograph the beauty, paint the scenery, go for a little rock climbing adventure in a nearby “klettergarden” or hang out on the decks of the huts with other European hikers and get to know them. We have met good friends after such trips and have often stayed in their homes and experienced Europe through their eyes.

Each day brings new sights and experiences, new friends and pleasures.

The trip takes us eventually full circle to the trail where we began. There we meet our transportation back to Innsbruck, stay the evening, and say our goodbyes, either heading home or embarking on more European adventure.

You can leave the group then or add additional days of optional adventures to the program, such as more hut to hut hiking, rock climbing, visit the Matterhorn ( Switzerland ) or Mt Blanc ( France ) regions with us, go mountaineering, or visit some famous places nearby.

Whatever you do, it's one of those experiences everyone should be lucky enough to have in their lifetime.

Come and join us!
