The Intermediate level Snow climbs are some of our most popular, requiring your completion of Snow Climbing 1 class which is a very extensive One Day course designed to prep you for moderate to steep snow climbing routes or high altitude snow climbing as part of a roped team.

If you have not climbed with us before, you will need to call and speak to a guide to see if these climbs are appropriate for you.

We have some terrific climbs here in Colorado that the aspiring alpinist should experience and these climbs take place on some of those routes when the snow conditions allow, usually during the months of May thru late June.

We select the specific mountains we will climb according to the conditions at the time you are ready to participate as conditions can vary greatly in just a few days time. Although out of state climbers may not be as familiar with the names of some of these local classics, they will certainly be impressed after they’ve summited via their seldom travelled, high quality routes. We have chosen these routes to give you the “cream of the crop” of this type of climbing activity.

We often climb without any other parties on the same route, and head down before anyone else arrives at the summit. That’s something to cherish these days.

Normally, we camp at the trailhead the evening before, and begin these climbs from the trailhead around 4:30-5am. Usually it takes between 5 and 6 hours to reach the summit, returning to the trailhead by early afternoon.

Experience the pleasure of a more challenging Colorado Alpine snow route with us. These routes require the use of rest stepping and front pointing with crampons, perhaps the use of a second axe, and snow pickets to protect our roped team. All of these techniques are taught in the Snow Climbing 1 course. Terrain will be steeper with angles sometimes approaching 65 degrees in places, which is very steep snow.

We rent all the gear necessary to participate in a rental package too.

Good aerobic conditioning is essential of each climber in these endeavors.

Take a day off work and experience a Colorado weekday treat!

Call us and we‘ll be happy to chat about these fine climbs.
